Since 1948, Western New Yorkers have ventured to South Buffalo for the made-fresh, sponge-candy sticks of Park Edge Sweet Shoppe.
Park Edge is one of the only shops that still makes fresh sponge twice a week, and they are the only ones that cut it into the unique stick-shape.
In 2011, the owners were past retirement, but wanted to continue the business with a new generation that cared as much as they did. That’s where two South Buffalo sisters came in.
Park Edge Sweet Shoppe had been a part of Anna Hartog and Maggie Mulvaney's lives for as long as they can remember, and they were eager to carry on the South Buffalo candy shop’s recipes and tradition (with a few of their own special treats added in).
The sisters, Anna with a business background and Maggie with a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, stepped in and continued the business in Fall 2011.
Since then, they’ve expanded. They took on ownership of Cookie Expressions in 2013, keeping the original, award-winning chocolate chip cookie recipe for the “cookie bouquets.” And most recently, the shop brought in seasoned chocolatier, Allison Krueger, who is expanding and improving the line of truffles and creams.
Each year brings new and exciting products, while preserving the favorites that keep customers coming back.
